Kirk Lee Hammett (born November 18, 1962) is an American guitarist and composer.

Co-founder of Exodus in 1980, after the departure of Dave Mustaine he was chosen in 1983 as solo guitarist of Metallica, with which he will find world fame.

Considered one of the most prominent guitarists in the thrash metal scene, he was ranked second with James Hetfield in the Guitar World’s ranking of the top 100 greatest metal guitarists ever behind Tony Iommi.
